Understanding CHC

I eventually secured CHC for [my] relative during their lifetime and recovered unassessed periods of care plus expenses retrospectively… I secured CHC and a Review alone, but it’s essential to be very well prepared and informed. The book and this site were invaluable.

Thank you to CTBD as this site and the ebook prepared me for the trauma of dealing with “the authorities” and therefore allowed me to be very aware of Mum’s rights and how to answer the awful questions that are asked in the assessment. Initially Mum’s care was fully funded but ultimately the powers that be assessed her condition to have improved so for the majority of the last 7 years she had only limited funding. However, the breathing space that my knowledge of the process and being able to initially secure full funding enabled me to come up with a funding strategy (Lifetime Care Annuity) that we were lucky enough to be able to afford through the house sale, and which more than paid for itself; firstly due to Mum’s unbelievable will to live in surviving beyond the estimates of the actuaries, but just as importantly because of the peace of mind the family has had in not needing to worry about carehome fees. I hope this message is helpful to anyone at the start of the journey and that the advise provided by CTBD is just as helpful to them as it was to me (and of course my Mum).

This site is worth its weight in gold. I have learnt so much about the legislation of CHC since joining. Without this information I would not have had such a strong case. Also the ebook, how to get NHS to pay for care, is well worth the money. Thank you Care to be Different.

The book is worth its weight in gold. Easy to read and full of clearly written information. It added enormously to my confidence in the MDT meeting. I could argue my case, backed by the information I gained from the book…I thoroughly recommend the Care to be Different book, as you need all the information you can get, and you will certainly find it therein.
