One of the biggest challenges you face when an elderly relative needs care is where to go for advice and what to ask.

Very often (and especially if you have savings) your local authority and/or NHS may not be overly helpful in providing advice about care fees funding.

You may also be given information about means-testing for paying for the care fees that is incorrect.

It’s vital to double-check all the information you’re given by your local authority and NHS. Staff are not always fully conversant with the care funding system and with Department of Health guidelines

Always remember, if full-time care is required for health needs, you should never be means-tested until the NHS has done a proper health needs assessment for NHS Continuing Healthcare.
